The free will must be cherished, and the soul of the young child nourished to overcome the filthy influence of the surrounding world. Here is a list of five books, which might be helpful to liberate troubled minds and open closed hearts.

We will start with All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. There is probably no better written novel to date that can explain the horrors of soldiers in battle and the meaninglessness of war. This is the book of friendship, suffering, and surviving.
James Joyce is probably the most influential writer in English speaking countries and his masterpiece Ulysses is the foundation of modern literature. This is must read book for everyone.
Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations is all about fighting prejudices and living live without chains. It’s one of the greatest books of all times and is mandatory reading.
The Name of the Rose is the most popular novel written by recently departed Umberto Eco. The great Italian maestro is probably the most notable novelist in 21st Century and he is best known from The Name of the Rose. It is a spectacular medieval crime story interconnected with love, hate, and murder.
Last but not least is Narcissus and Goldmund, the one novel that really liberates us. It is written by the literary genius Hermann Hesse and it is not even one his most popular books. Still, Narcissus and Goldmund (some English publishers translate the title as Death and the Lover) is the book that will open a completely new world before your eyes and totally liberate your mind.
